Puerto Vallarta is a stunning resort city in Mexico's Jalisco state that is located in Bahia de Banderas Bay on the Pacific Ocean. Puerto Vallarta comes second only to Guadalajara Metropolitan Region in size and serves as the Puerto Vallarta Municipality government seat. Also referred to as Vallarta, the city is bordered by Nayarit’s southwestern part to its north, Mascota and San Sebastian del Oeste to its east, and Talpa de Allende and Cabo Corrientes to the south.
Puerto Vallarta is home to beautiful beaches and turquoise blue waters as well as a vibrant nightlife. Beachside promenades like the famous El Malecon are very common along the coastline of Puerto Vallarta and are the best-visited spots for tourism, photography, and other scenic adventures like sightseeing.
Several beaches including Playa Camarones and Playa Los Muertos as well as several stretchy sandy areas like Playa Mismaloya and Punta de Mita are known for their water activities and involvements including surfing, snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, and whale-watching.
The iconic seahorse-shaped Caballito, the modern Los Muertos Pier, the famous Plaza de las Armas, and the stunning El Faro lighthouse, among others, form the top attractions in Puerto Vallarta.

When to visit Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta experiences a tropical wet and dry climate that is Köppen classified as Aw. The weather is typically characteristic of minimal variations in the high and low ranges across the year, mainly falling within the warm and pleasant ranges. The climate is primarily influenced by the prevailing southwestern winds, which, to a large extent, are responsible for the mild weather experienced in Puerto Vallarta.
The rainy season begins in mid-June and extends through mid-October, but most of the rainfall is received between July and September. The wettest month of the year happens to be in September, accumulating the highest precipitation of the year. The rainy season is accompanied by high cases of rainstorms, occasional thunderstorms, as well as flooding episodes, to which visitors are highly advised. The rainy season receives approximately fifteen days of rain per month, and September tops them all with up to sixteen rainy days and an average of 370mm (14.6") of precipitation.
The dry season stretches from November through May. November, December, and January receive moderate showers that average 25.3mm (1") across two rainfall days on average per month. Between February and May, Puerto Vallarta becomes relatively dry, as there are only a few minutes per day that receive rainfall which manages to accumulate only to 6mm (0.2") per month on average.
The temperature recordings have very minimal variations between the highest recording and the lowest. Averagely, Puerto Vallarta records highs of between 28.8°C (83.8°F) and 34.3°C (93.7°F) on most days, and lows of between 16.5°C (61.7°F) and 23.3°C (73.9°F) on the majority of the nights. Scorching days are rare, seeing that the hottest months fall within the rainy season which cools down the heat considerably, not forgetting the impact of the prevailing winds from the Pacific Ocean.
The peak of Puerto Vallarta’s travel season is between December and May. This time features warm and lovely daily temperature as well as moderately dry days with very minimal rainfall. Puerto Vallarta celebrates the Easter Festival between March and April on varying dates and the Virgin of Guadalupe Festival from 1st to 12th December amid several parades and festivities as Christians celebrate their faith.
