Acapulco, also known as Acapulco de Juarez, is a large city and municipal region in Guerrero state in Mexico. This beautiful coastal city is located along Mexico's Pacific Coast, in a sunken, semicircular-shaped bay. Acapulco has been a vibrant port city from as far back as during the colonial times of Mexico. It is the most active port serving the US sates of Panama, California, and San Francisco. Because of its activity levels, Acapulco remains the largest city in Mexico and the most vibrant resort city and beach city in Mexico.
Acapulco was a common getaway spot for the wealthy and prominent people from as early as in the 1940s, during which period it was one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Today, the popularity of Acapulco has considerably shriveled, as it has been listed as the most unsafe city in Mexico and the third-most unsafe city in the world! Drug gangs, street violence, and murders have kept rising in the past years, prompting most states to put it up in their no-travel lists.
On the bright side, the local visitors who brave the city enjoy the stunning surroundings of the Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains beyond the magnificent skyscrapers of the city. Acapulco has one of the most amazing beaches in Mexico, and it is widely known for its vibrant and energetic nightlife and sprawling golf courses overlooking the magnificent beaches.
Some of the essential landmarks in Acapulco include the scenic Acapulco Bay, the ever-attractive Huntress Diana Fountain, the Fort of San Diego, the iconic Cathedral of Our Lady of Solitude, the stunning region of La Quebrada, and the ever-glorious La Roqueta Island.
Some of the activities to engage in while on a visit to Acapulco include swimming in the beautiful blue waters, bungee jumping from the stunning rocks around the beaches, horseback riding, and enjoying a game or two on the neatly-manicured golf courses.
